My Rookie of the Year
When I think about rookies in the sport of off-road racing, I generally think about a kid who has come up the ranks to finally race in his first professional season. This kid has been given lots of opportunity to experience the "off-road" competition and knows generally what to expect (to a certain point).
If there was an off-road for rookie of the year, I don't think it should have been awarded to a young-gun or the next big thing. I would in fact award the achievement to a 32-year-old supercross champion who made a very successful crossover to wonderful world of 2-hour long racing through rocks as tall as him and through trails as skinny as he is. Damon Huffman deserves to be recognized for his amazing journey during his first year as a professional off-road racer.
With that said and not that I have any authority at all, I want to say that Damon is Mr. Off-Road Rookie of the Year 2008 in my book.
